About

The European PhD hub is an online electronic platform that will provide PhD students, Researchers and Universities with new cooperation and funding opportunities from the public and private sectors, both in direct research funding and commissioned research from enterprises.

The main purpose of the project is to make sure the knowledge triangle (education, research and innovation) works and guarantee that research outcomes obtained by PhD students have a real impact in broader socio-economic environments and/or find real applications within the business/industry clusters.

These developments will contribute to building a single European area for education, research and research financing.

Outputs of the project

The project consists of three specific outputs aimed at:

01
Establishing a quality framework for university-business cooperation

Each University-Business tandem will establish their local PhD Hub strategy, aimed at representing the interest of both academic and corporate fields and finding a joint approach for triggering research and ensuring its transferability to the society at large. The Consortium will also develop two guides for international and business cooperation for doctoral studies to lay the foundations of local and European research activities. The business cooperation guide will also include guidelines for PhD Business mentors.

02
Building an online infrastructure to increase research opportunities and their transferability

The local PhD Hubs will share information both at local and European level thanks to an innovative online platform connecting the local IT platforms among themselves. This will allow to find partners interested in applying research results, search for public/private research partners or open calls for applications to vacant PhD positions. The local and European dimension of this community will substantially increase the number of research and knowledge transfer opportunities.

03
Applying and mainstreaming the European PhD Hub

The University-Business tandems will be responsible for implementing their local PhD Hub strategy and informing/training both academic and corporate staff members and potential PhD students on the opportunities offered by the European PhD Hub. The project will support stakeholders to register on the European PhD Hub, and open calls for cooperation.

Finally, the European PhD Hub aims at bringing together universities, companies and PhD students to efficiently contribute to the knowledge-based society of tomorrow.

It's time to meet again!

Work meeting and Innovation fest

Published on February 5th, 2018

Following the general kick-off meeting, the consortium of the PhD Hub will meet again on the 30th and 31st of May at the Birmingham City University. We will have two days of work sessions. The consortium will discuss the results delivered to set the framework of the university-business and international cooperation, as well as the initiation of the local PhD Hubs. In addition, an important part of the meeting will focus on the work conducted by the University of Alcalá for outlining the feature and technical blueprint of a highly ambitious platform connecting business and academia locally and at European level. This will initiate the process of developing the online platform, led by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with the support of Microsoft and LSI Software.

Furthermore, the consortium will attend the Innovation Fest, hosted by our partner Birmingham City University. This is a perfect occasion to share good practices with inspirational speakers and engage in networking with potential PhD Hub business and university partners.
